To further increase the authenticity of the show, Sheridan also cast a pair of real-life cowboys in recurring roles.
Even if some of them had no acting experience, they all quickly adapted and became the core of the success ofGelbstein.
Forrie J. Smith (Lloyd Pierce)

Lloyd, the ranch butler, has worked at the Yellowstone Ranch for many years. He's also best friends with ranch foreman Rip Wheeler and certainly a fan favorite.
However, the reason Lloyd's character is so popular is the fact that Forrie J. Smith himself grew up on a ranch in Montana. From the age of eight he regularly rode horses and participated in rodeos.
Interestingly, Smith turned to entertainment after falling off a horse. After the incident, he decided to become a stuntman, a career that took him all the way to Hollywood.
According to Smith, it used to be common for rodeo cowboys to become stuntmen:

Forrie J. Smith's ride to fame

Smith originally metGelbsteinwriter Taylor Sheridan by collaborating with him on the set ofhell or flood(2016).
Seeing the stuntman's potential to play a cowboy, Sheridan offered him the recurring role of Lloyd Pierce, which Smith accepted.
After two highly successful seasons, Smith became a series regular.Gelbstein. This was a major milestone for the stuntman-turned-actor who has never had a series regular role.
Ironically, he is now too valuable to perform most of the stunts that used to be part of Smith's daily routine. Luckily, Sheridan allows him to do a few stunts from time to time, which makes his days on set interesting and fun.

Jake Ream (Jake)

In the series, Jake is a hand on the Dutton family's ranch. He is played by actor and jockey Jake Ream, who met Taylor Sheridan when he sold him a horse.
According to Ream, Sheridan called him one day to ask about a horse he was listing for sale online. When Sheridan came to test drive the horse, the two immediately bonded.
Little did Ream know that this encounter would lead to him becoming a recurring actor on a hit TV show!
When the time came, Sheridan asked Ream for help with the training.GelbsteinActor how to ride and act like a cowboy. So he started out as a cowboy and stunt coordinator for the show and was even put in charge of the cowboy camp.
For camp, Ream loaded 14 mules, loaded the actors onto horses, and rode to a piece of land owned by his grandfather. They camped out in the desert for four nights, where Ream gave everyone a crash course in the cowboy lifestyle.
From cowboy to actor
As the show progressed, Sheridan took Ream roping and riding in more and more scenes. He in time became one of the Bunkhouse Ranch pilots.Gelbstein, which was also his first appearance as an actor.
"Taylor put me a little here and a little there," Ream said.stranger. "In season 1 he had me do a rappelling scene that was fun. That was probably the first big scene I ever did. I think there was just a little place for me, for a guy going in and out," she recalled.

Ryan Bingham (Raiders)

Walker is an ex-prisoner whose fate leads him to work as a branded rancher on the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. He was recruited directly from prison in Season 1 by Rip, who gave him a second chance at life.
As it turns out, the actor who plays Walker on the show is not unlike his character in real life. Bingham grew up on the New Mexico-Texas border, surrounded by horses and rodeos. He started bull riding at a young age and left home at 17 to join the rodeo circus.
Ultimately, however, it was music that brought him fame and success.
Getting to know Taylor Sheridan
Respectivelydaily country thang, Sheridan originally commissioned Bingham to write a song titled "nitrogen(2017). Upon learning of Bingham's rodeo background, she offered him a job on the set ofGelbstein.
Like many of his fellow cowboys, Bingham doesn't just play a character on screen. He also helps out behind the scenes, giving advice to the cast and crew on how to make the show more authentic.

Ethan Lee (Ethan)

Ethan is one of the new workers at the Yellowstone ranch. He is played by stuntman and actor Ethan Lee and has been a recurring character on the series since season 3.
As with previous actors, Lee's talent for horseback riding and rappelling isn't just an act, the Los Angeles native spent years riding broncos and bulls on the rodeo circuit.
In addition, he worked for several years as a specialist in shows such asclaws(2017-2022) yNCIS: New Orleans(2014-2021). His work as a stuntman led to his current role.Gelbstein.
Lee was twice offered a role in Yellowstone.
Shockingly, the stunt double turned down his first chance to be a part of Sheridan's show. in conversation withWWLTvLee explained that all of her children are young and she doesn't want to be away for long.
However, he soon regretted turning down such a good offer and was ready to accept the second time. Initially starting behind the scenes, he was promoted to a cast member at the end of the second season.
Taylor Sheridan (Travis Wheatley)

Travis is a horse trainer and trader from Bosque Ranch in Texas who also breeds and shows Quarter Horses.
